Wow! We actually made it through Halloween with hardly any snow on the ground. So many years it seems my childhood memories are filled with bone chilling cold and snowstorms on Halloween, so you always had to cover your costume with a snowsuit or large coat, and cut your trick or treating short; and that sucked. I think it was the first life lesson as a kid… life is not fair, especially when it comes to the weather.
How many times have you planned an event that depended on the weather and the weather didn’t cooperate? Disappointed? Of course. Surprised? Not in the least. Living in Saskatchewan you quickly learn to roll with the punches when it comes to the weather. Heck, the weather man is only right half the time, and he’s the freaking weatherman! How boring would it be to be a weather man in someplace like Mexico?
One thing we can all agree on about though… if it wasn’t for the weather, we’d have nothing to talk about. It’s how 99% of conversations between strangers begin. Personally, I love warm weather, so the transition to winter is always tough on me. Once it sets in for good though I adapt well enough I guess.
Soon enough we’ll all be toughened up and looking forward to doing winter outdoor activities. But here we are in the first week of November and yesterday the temperature got up to +11, and today it’s expected to hit +12. By the weekend it’s expected that we’re back on the minus side for daytime highs and snow is in the forecast.
I sure would like to try 1997 again, where it didn’t snow in Saskatchewan until AFTER Christmas. Standing in the yard for a family photo in sock feet on Dec 25th was pretty neat. I could get used to that. Change my mind.
