Made ya look! The title of this blog is misspelled on purpose to help me prove a point. As a blog, you subconsciously expect everything to be correct, but at the same time I always hear from people that spelling doesn’t matter, because “you know what I meant”.
Let’s deal with that last part first… “you know what I meant”. Are you sure I know what you meant? Common sense might make you think so, but in this day and age that isn’t a valid excuse anymore. We learned recently from Don Cherry that it’s actually “what I think you meant” that counts in public opinion, so choose your words carefully.
And to those that say spelling doesn’t matter, but there’s nothing like seeing a great meme about something important but it has spelling errors, or get a tattoo with a misspelled word in it and let me know how that goes. People will focus on the misspelling rather than the art itself, and the meaning is lost. The same when posting on social media… especially when you’re trying to make a point. I saw a lot of people for or against Don Cherry this past week stating their opinions to the world, except the amount of people that misspelled the word poppy was what really caught my attention, and hence the idea for this blog.
When I see the word poopy in your rant, that’s pretty much where my interest in what you have to say is lost. It goes back to what I said before, I know you meant poppy, but your point has been lost. Other words being used in rants incorrectly were ‘aloud’ which means audible, when you meant allowed, as in he should/shouldn’t be allowed to say what he wants.
‘Midas’ was another word thrown around in these rants. Midas was the King who turned everything he touched into gold, you meant ‘might as’, as in might as well. Spelling is important if you want to make your voice heard, as people will disregard an uneducated opinion. Poor spelling ruins credibility, so really I’m just trying to help you out with your future protests.
You may now return to your regular day.
