With all the travelling taking place at this time, I feel we need to have this discussion again… Please get out of the left lane on the four-lane highway.
Having four-lane highways is great, because it allows for a smoother flow of traffic, but too many people don’t seem to understand that the left lane is NOT a driving lane, it’s a passing lane. I feel that too many people have missed this part of the Drivers Handbook.
The highway sign usually says ‘Keep right except to pass’, but occasionally it says ‘Slower traffic keep right’. Unfortunately, some folks seem to think that the latter means that if they drive a few kilometers and hour faster than you, that they can stay in the left lane. At least that’s what I imagine is going through their minds. Regardless… even if there is no sign at all, it’s the rule.
So please, when you’re on a four-lane highway and find yourself in the left lane, get back in the right lane as soon as it’s safe to do so.
Thanks for coming to my TED Talk
